2008 Bellarina Meritage Red
Bavarian Lion Vineyards
The cabernet franc and merlot were handpicked from our Estate Bavarian Lion Vineyards. The slightly higher elevation combined with rich volcanic soil and warm sunny days create ideal growing conditions for the varietals that make Bordeaux or Meritage blends. Our 2008 Bellarina has a classic claret appearance of garnet red with light red hues. It is fragrant with red currants, sweet spice, rhubarb, and fresh herb impressions. On the palate, the wine has tart red cherry, raspberry, red plum, and black tea flavors. The wine finishes with hints of plum and vanilla. Drink now or cellar for 4-6 years.
Ehret Family's Bavarian Lion Vineyards have been in the family since the mid 1990's and showcase the best Knights Valley has to offer. The Knight's Valley AVA is protected from the marine in?uence of the Pacific Ocean, making it the warmest AVA in Sonoma County. The vineyards on the estate range from 400-800 feet in elevation and are located just north of Calistoga and east of Alexander Valley, on the foothills of Mount St. Helena. The unique topography and soil content make this a most desirable area to grow Bordeaux grapes. The soil consists of well drained, very gravelly and sandy loams formed from mixed sedimentary and basic rock.
