Pierre and Susan Ehret, The Owners

Ehret Family Winery is the creation of the husband and wife, Pierre Ehret and Susan Robertson. The Sonoma County Winery sources all of its grapes from the family owned estate of Bavarian Lion Vineyards located n the esteemed Knight's Valley AVA, just North of Napa Valley in Sonoma County, where hand crafted small lots of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot and syrah are harvested to create savory wines. It is the Ehrets' philosophy that wine making starts in the vineyard.

Pierre Ehret is the owner of Sonoma County's renowned Flamingo Resort Hotel & Conference Center in Santa Rosa, California. In 1996 Pierre established the Bavarian Lion Vineyard in Knights Valley, selling the high quality fruit to the premier wineries in Sonoma County. His upbringing in Germany with business interest on both sides of the Atlantic developed an appreciation and understanding of fine wines, both domestic and European. This experience coupled with running Bavarian Lion Vineyard for the last decade prompted him to establish Ehret Family Winery as a family business.

The Family

Pierre Ehret was born in Düsseldorf, Germany. In 1980 he moved from Berlin to Santa Rosa to attend the local Junior College. He graduated from Columbia Univ. with a BA in Economics, and moved to Fontainebleau, France ( his first immersion with wine) to earn his MBA. In 1989 Pierre moved back to Santa Rosa to run the family owned Flamingo Resort Hotel & Conference Center, a local landmark building that until today reflects the architectural style of the day, but boosting all the most modern amenities which are expected today of a top class resort. Pierre is an avid sports car racer, and enjoys tennis and skiing.

Susan Robertson was born Puerto Rico. Susan grew up in many parts of the world due to her father's career as an engineer for Bechtel Corp. After settling down in Marin County, Susan pursued a career in retail management and marketing. Susan is the mother of three children and has immersed herself in the operations and management of Ehret Family Winery. Besides managing operations for the winery, she still pursues a degree in Psychology at the University of Phoenix. Susan's other great interest and passion is the field of historical religion.

Alex and Christian Ehret were both born in Santa Rosa, California. Both are currently attending an International boarding school in Europe striving for the IB diploma. Both youngsters have been active observers and helping hands during many prior harvests. To say they that both enjoy wines would be premature, but it is the hope of their parents that their European upbringing will help to develop this passion.
