SPRING NEWSLETTER 2018

The Rockpile with Wild Flowers at Bavarian Lion Vineyards, Knights Valley, Sonoma County

Vineyard News

The vines are awakening. We currently have "Bud Break" in Knights Valley. Our vines remain dormant, sleeping in slumber before they begin their revival for this growing season. Many of the surrounding Appellations have "Bud Break" before Knights Valley. Plenty of rainfall has stocked our reservoirs with water for this coming grow season, and with the added Spring showers, Lupus and California Poppies are springing up all over the Vineyard.

New Consultant Winemaker-Erin Green

Erin Green received a degree in Fermentation Science from UC Davis. Following graduation, she worked at Sonoma-Cutrer Vineyards, Vinwood Cellars, and in the early 1990s, was instrumental in the launch of the Napa Wine Company as Director of Winemaking. Erin assisted on several ultra-premium projects such as Bryant Family, Colgin Cellars, Martinelli Winery &Vineyards, and Pahlmeyer.  From 2000-2012 she became Winemaker and Director of Winegrowing at Pahlmeyer and made their critically acclaimed wines through the 2010 vintage. Green returned to Sonoma County to become Consulting Winemaker for Martinelli Winery and Vineyards. She joined Ehret Family Winery as a consultant winemaker in the summer of 2015. "We are quite honored to have Erin consulting with us to make outstanding wines from our estate Bavarian Lion Vineyards in Knights Valley," owner Pierre Ehret remarked. "The exceptional 2015 wines truly showcase her talent and style."

2012 Estate Cab-New Release

Our 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Knights Valley, has aromas of red cherry, cocoa powder and mocha.  The flavors invoke dark cherry and cassis with a touch of dark chocolate on the finish.  Great structure with a smooth mid-palate.  Drink over the next 5-10 years. Pair with an Aged Cheddar Cheese or perfect with a steak.  A solid representation of our Flagship wine.

Blend 87.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6.25% Cabernet Franc % 6.25% Merlot:  800 cases produced.
